Do I need to install anything to enhance a picture online?

Without WebGPU — on every iPhone and iPad, for example — the AI engine runs on the CPU in smaller tiles, which keeps progress and Cancel responsive but is slower, and it reads at most 0.7 megapixels, so a large photo comes back smaller.
Does it work offline?
Once the AI engine — the 4.9 MB model plus its runtime — has downloaded, yes: enhancing needs no connection, so you can switch the network off and keep going in the open tab. No internet connection is needed during actual processing.
What file types and sizes are supported?
JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP, up to 20 per batch. There is no file-size cap — a 50 MB picture loads fine because nothing is uploaded. The AI pass reads up to 4 megapixels on GPU-accelerated devices (0.7 MP on CPU-only) and outputs up to 40 megapixels.
How does an online tool match the quality of desktop software?
The AI engine is Real-ESRGAN (realesr-general-x4v3), the same open-source super-resolution model used by many desktop and server-based tools. Running it in the browser through WebGPU or WebAssembly is a delivery choice, not a quality compromise — the model weights and architecture are identical.

Why enhance pictures online instead of installing software?

Desktop photo editors are powerful, but they require a download, an installation, often a licence, and usually a GPU with vendor-specific drivers. An online enhancer removes all of that friction: open a URL, drop a picture, get an enhanced result. Every picture is decoded, enhanced and re-encoded inside your browser tab. There is no upload endpoint, no analytics on your files and no server-side processing at all. The only network traffic is the one-time download of the AI engine — the model plus its runtime; after that the enhancer keeps working with the network switched off.
